FiOS Install
So I finally got Verizon FiOS in my neighborhood. One phone call and two days later I had it installed. Aside from a few technical glitches, the install went smoothly. Since I was the first on my block to get it, there we a few extra connections that had to happen on the poles before everything was set.
Initial impressions: The TV signal is AMAZING. I got the HD package and all I can say is WOW. Even on my crappy old tube TV in the bedroom, the picture looks better that cable or Dish.
Internet: Crazy fast. I went with 20/5 to guarantee speed and I was not disappointed. According to speednet.org, I am averaging 19.99/5.05. Not too shabby.
Phone: Noting much changed by the long-distance is free and there are some nifty additions to the phone service, like online notifications and voicemail via the web.
One thing I do like is the ability to control the DVR via a web interface, which I know Tivo users have had for a while, but is new and neat for me.
But now the bad news.
After a week of service, we have lost several of the HD channels and I cannot get the DVRs to work consistently. Sometimes they record, others they don’t. The channels going out is annoying to say the least. So I placed a call to them and they are sending a tech tomorrow, which is way faster service than I expected. Dish would take a week or longer before they could get to you.
Long story short, I will reserve judgment until they arrive to fix the issue tomorrow, so stay tuned.
